FAQs: Jaxx Liberty & The Ethereum Merge

The Ethereum Merge has completed. Jaxx Liberty Ethereum nodes are now running normally.

Jaxx Liberty is ready for the upcoming Ethereum Merge. This article explains how The Merge impacts the Jaxx Liberty community and answers some frequently asked questions.

Jaxx Liberty is ready for the upcoming Ethereum Merge, which will transition the Ethereum network from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake. As a Jaxx Liberty user, you do not need to do anything with your Ethereum or Jaxx Liberty wallet before or after The Merge. Your funds will remain safe on the Ethereum blockchain and your transaction history will be maintained.

We will suspend Ethereum transactions at 3:00 am GMT before The Merge begins and until it is completed. This means you will be unable to send or receive Ethereum or ERC20 tokens through Jaxx Liberty during this period of time.

FAQs

What is The Merge?

The Ethereum Merge (commonly referred to as “The Merge”) refers to the Ethereum network’s plan to join its mainnet with the Beacon Chain proof-of-stake system.

The Merge will transition the Ethereum mainnet from its current proof-of-work consensus mechanism to Proof of Stake.

A network consensus mechanism refers to the way changes to the blockchain (e.g., transactions) are agreed upon.

Moving Ethereum to Proof of Stake sets the stage for future scaling upgrades. It is also claimed by some to reduce Ethereum’s energy consumption by ~99.95%.

When is the Merge Happening?

The Merge is roughly estimated to occur in the early morning hours on Friday, September 16, 2022 (GMT). The final date & time depends on a number of technical factors.

As a Jaxx Liberty user, do I need to do anything? Is my crypto safe?

Jaxx Liberty users do not need to take any action with their crypto or wallets. Your funds are safe on the blockchain, and you will retain your full wallet history in Jaxx Liberty.

Will Jaxx Liberty support proof-of-work Ethereum (ETHPOW)?

Jaxx Liberty will not be supporting proof-of-work Ethereum (ETHPOW) following The Merge. However, we will wait to see how things play out and may leave the door open to supporting it at some point in the future. This is the same way we’ve handled previous forks.

Although we don’t recommend it, If you want to access your forked coins, you can export your Jaxx Liberty ETH private key into another wallet that does support the POW fork.

Please note: This action could potentially expose your Ethereum private keys, so please ensure you trust the place you’re inputting them. We strongly recommend that users not touch their private keys and hang tight for a number of days after The Merge to see how things play out.
